At CrownWood Dental we can offer our patients intravenous (IV) sedation. IV sedation is given by injection, either in the back of your hand or in your arm. The dose will depend on the amount of treatment needed and the length of time it will take to complete.
Sedation can be offered for:
With sedation, you become drowsy and unaware of any treatment, but you are still able to co-operate with the dentist. The effects of the sedative take some time to wear off and your dentist will tell you how long the drugs will take to clear from your body.
You will not be able to drink alcohol, drive or work machinery during this time.

No dental visits for years due to nerves
I joined Crownwood last year after recommendation from a friend, after a few years neglecting my teeth of fear of going to dentist. From the moment I walked in to the lovely surgery I was looked after by Laura who was friendly and very professional. Dr. AJ has looked after my teeth ever since.
I am a very nervous patience but AJ has always made me feel calm and relaxed through all the treatment he has given me and talked me through everything he was doing. My ultimate goal was to achieve a natural makeover smile I could be proud of for my daughters wedding and not being afraid to show my teeth.
AJ talked me through the options of composite and porcelain veneers and although I have had a couple of composite veneers in the past I chose porcelain as they are long lasting and look so natural. The process does take time and patience but it is so worthwhile when you see the finished results.
I have had so many compliments from family and friends on how beautiful my teeth look now and how it has made me look younger. I can now smile confidently without my hand covering my mouth. I cannot speak highly enough of AJ and the treatment he has carried out for me and would recommend anyone in doubt don't hesitate just go for it.
I would also compliment the dental nurses and hygenists who all participate in assisting and giving their support.
Nervous child
The dentist we saw was so good with my children. My 4 year old was very nervous and he was excellent at making her feel comfortable by showing her all the tools and explaning what he was doing.
I honestly can't praise him enough for the fantastic job he did
Very nervous patient
Since joining the practice in September I have had nothing but a good experience. I was a very nervous patient who needed a fair amount done but all done very well, explained and made me feel at ease at every step. Receptionists great too.
Complex treatment
I’ve just completed a complex treatment plan. Really happy with the result. As a nervous patient, Dr Wong and his team have always been very supportive and understanding.
Would highly recommend going to this dental surgery.
Dental phobia refers to an intense, persistent fear of dental visits, which can cause significant anxiety or even prevent some people from seeking any dental care. It’s more severe than normal nerves and often impacts well-being and oral health.
We offer a compassionate and understanding approach. This includes allowing extra time for appointments, using calming techniques, explaining each step clearly (often in advance), and offering sedation if required, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience.
Yes, IV sedation is very safe when administered by trained professionals. This advanced form of sedation helps you feel deeply relaxed and at ease throughout your procedure, while still allowing you to respond to instructions. We’ll discuss your medical history and suitability during your consultation to ensure IV sedation is a safe and comfortable option for you.
We encourage you to talk openly about your fears before your visit, whether over the phone or on arrival. Bringing a supportive friend or listening to calming music can also help. We’re here to adapt to your comfort needs every step of the way.
Absolutely. Even short, gentle appointments can build trust and confidence. Many of our patients with dental anxiety gradually feel more relaxed with routine visits, especially when supported by our caring team and tailored techniques.
