How it felt to have a Dental Hygiene appointment after 20+ years!

20 years……….I know, its Outrageous isnt it?

Definitely a long time to have not seen a dental hygienist and WAY OVERDUE!

Harneek Sangha and I both joined CrownWood Dental and MediSpa at the same time, so I thought it would be a good reason to book an appointment to see her.

To be honest, I did feel really nervous, plus I knew that my teeth were highly sensitive. PAIN was at the forefront of my mind…..I just thought…. this is going to HURT!

Back in the 90’s was the last time that I saw a hygienist and all I remember was a lot of scrapping, plus a sense of feeling like my teeth were being pulled out! Not a nice experience in my recollection.

I explained my anxiety and sensitivity to Harneek, she was very understanding and asked if I would like to have some sedation or numbing gel. YES was my immediate answer. As I’m not overtly keen on needles, I decided to go for the latter option…the numbing gel.

The gel took a few minutes to take effect and then Harneek got to work.

I was suitably surprised at how easy the whole process was. Harneek talked me through each stage and what all the noise correlated to. This put me at ease and I subsequently began to relax.

After the cleaning finished, which took around 25 minutes, Harneek showed me the results in a mirror…..WOW, they looked amazing, so CLEAN and FRESH, just fantastic. I could actually feel each individual tooth with my tongue.

After the cleaning, Harneek then worked her magic with the Airflow stain remover. This didn’t take much time at all and the results were impressive, my teeth looked much whiter and actually sparkled!

Literally, there was nothing to worry about! Hygiene appointments have certainly moved on since the 90’s. The process was PAIN FREE. I would highly recommend going to see a hygienist, you will be super excited about the results.

Jenna’s Invisalign Journey – Months 7 and 8

I’m noticing massive changes now in regards to my bite, as this is what my treatment is correcting.

I looked over my photos before I started the treatment and the changes are HUGE.

This is really motivating to keep you on track with your Invisalign treatment, as at times it can be tough.

I don’t have any other pain with the Invisalign trays anymore, like I did in the beginning, with it rubbing.

Now I will only have pain coming from the teeth which are being moved by the trays (which I quite like anyway – as you know it is working).

If you do feel slightly de-motivated then please do ask your dentist for your ‘before’ photos, as I do believe this is a great incentive to keep going.

Just remember that pain is good, in regards to the movement of your teeth, and also why you even started the treatment in the first place.

Jenna’s Invisalign Journey – Months 5 and 6

The FIRST HURDLE with my Invisalign treatment, was going on holiday with the trays.

Being on holiday, where you are constantly having nice food and drinks, made it very difficult with the trays – having to remove them so often.

Although I did indulge on holiday (as you should), but was very honest with Dr Wong about how long I was wearing my trays for. We decided that I should wear the same trays for an extra week.

If at any point you feel like you haven’t worn them as religiously as you were before, its best to be really honest with your dentist, as ill-fitting trays could delay your treatment by having to go back and rectify the movement.

Jenna’s Invisalign Journey – Months 3 and 4

As the months go by, there isn’t a lot of change in my daily routine, in regards to my Invisalign treatment. So, I have decided to write my blog every two months now, as I should have a little more to talk about.

I will be very honest and admit that I have started to slack with the amount of times I use the ‘chewies’ throughout the day and probably allow myself more tea and coffee in the mornings than I did when I first started the treatment.

This hasn’t affected my treatment, as the slip ups are only minor, but I have noticed that the trays will feel tighter for longer, in comparison to when I was being very good with my trays. As I noticed the trays felt tighter than before, this really spurred me on to be extremely thorough with them once again.

Teeth Whitening and Airflow Stain Removal

Teeth whitening is a safe, non-evasive, clinical alternative to Porcelain Veneers and Dental Crowns, offering a complete smile makeover.

Teeth whitening should only be performed by a dentist or regulated dental professional, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist, on the prescription of a dentist. At CrownWood Dental, all clinical options are explained to our patients before we start a teeth whitening treatment.

Home Teeth Whitening Kit

Over time, teeth become stained by food and drink. Smoking further stains teeth, resulting in the natural white shade becoming darkened.

Teeth whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. A custom made mouth tray is created. A whitening gel is placed in the tray which is worn while you sleep, or for short periods during the day. Results are normally seen over a 2-week period.

Zoom chairside whitening whitens up to 6 shades in an hour.

The Philips Zoom Chairside procedure consists of 4 x 15 minutes with an added pH booster application that is applied to the teeth before the Philips Zoom whitening gel.

The chairside treatment is then used in conjunction with Zoom DayWhite or NiteWhite for patients to continue whitening at home.

For those who like the convenience of whitening while they sleep, there is NiteWhite; for patients who prefer a shorter wear-time we would recommend our DayWhite Take-Home treatment.
